The Great Tortoise Escape

There was excitement in the lunchroom,
For the word had got around,
The Galapagos Tortoise had got away.

Ok the blatant plagiarizing will stop now, but yes a giant tortoise had escaped from its enclosure at the phoenix zoo. No one is exactly sure how it got out but human involvement is believed to be involved (Personally I think it was four teenage ninjas rescuing a brother). The zoo staff was quick to respond, well quicker than a tortoise anyway and four staff members lifted it back into the enclosure.

It's not plagiarising, it's homage:

It was the Galapagos Tortoise
that struck the Phoenix town,
He wandered through the fence on purpose,
he wandered up and down,
He turtled here, he turtled there,
till he was like to drop,
Until at last, in sheer despair,
He sought a sneaker shop.

"Here, fit me out with brand new nikes,
so I can go much faster,
I'm going to need some racing stripes,
to get to Madagascar."

As far as I know it just plowed through the gate. An easy endeavor for a 700 pound tortoise, what I haven't figured out is why no one caught him in the act.

He was probably just too quick for you.

How far from it's enclosure did the tortoise make it? I mean was it as far as the path? Across the path? Or did it make it as far as it's neighbours? Maybe it just wanted to borrow some sugar?

And what emergency measures did the zookeepers take to protect endangered sand sharks from the rampaging tortoise?

See my "anonymous" post above. Because I wouldn't want people to ignore my post based on anonomisity (as in Leif's hurricane post).

And which way was it headed? Maybe it had gone to the neighbour's, borrowed the sugar, and was on its way home - in which case, human intervention would have been unnecessary.

(sean, did you leave one of those 'anonymous' posts on my blog? Which one? I don't ignore the anonymous comments, it's just frustrating arguing with five different anonymi.)

Also, did the tortoise pay to be allowed to wander around the zoo? The security guards should have asked a few more questions I think.

(No, I will always make sure people know it's me leaving a comment. What's the point about having an opinion if nobody knows it's you.)
